My dad has been a barber since he was 17. He's 72, still cutting hair straight. He's gonna keep cutting until he's doesn't want to do it anymore or can't anymore, really. But yeah, he's been a barber since, like, forever. He's owned, he had his own hair salon a couple of times and he sold it to another company. And then they just gave him a spot to sit in. He's like old school barber. Doesn't do the shaves or anything. He's real Mexicano. He brings lunch all the time, to work and extra food for all the girls. He works in a salon with, like, 15 other girls that are like hairstylists. Like young, and talking about all kinds of music. And he's got his own little spot in the corner, where he's just, like, he's known as the, like the grandpa that just brings food over. He loves to cook, so he's always bring them food.
He's also the only man that's ever cut my hair. Which is kind of interesting. Well, I'm 41, about to be 42, and I've only had a haircut from one other- two other people in my entire life. So I was actually thinking about it the other day. I mean, like, not looking forward to it obviously, but when my father passes, like, I don't know who- I have to find a barber.
And I don't mean that in, a I don't mean that in a bad… I don't want that to sound bad, like, oh I have to find a barber. It's not about finding a barber. It's about like- like, we're not very affectionate, my father and I. But, when he's cutting my hair, he's running his fingers through my hair, and he's doing these things that a barber does, but I guess when you look at a relationship like, we don't, we never really hugged. And, you know, he's just, he's just real old school. But those kinds of gestures are, are interesting to me because it's, not to say intimate, but like, we don't hug a lot, but you're running your fingers through my hair, and I'm your son, and you're cutting my hair and all that. So it's, to me, it means a lot.
So that's, when I say I have to find a new barber, that's kind of a daunting thing to think about, because I'm sure when I have to find a new barber, that's going to be a whole different experience that most people don't really realize. Like, my dad cut my hair my whole life. So like what, now what? You know?
I'm not looking forward to that. But that is something I thought about, which I thought was kind of interesting
