Alexis Viveros
Born on July 5th, 2007, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
So my freshman year, I started originally with engineering. But it was just not for me because I was just stuck behind a computer screen working on AutoCAD, I think is what it's called. I was just working on that and I was so bored. I was bored out of my mind. So I went and talked to my counselor and I was like, I just need something hands-on. They told me Intro to Trades is the place where I need to be. And there they taught us foundations of construction. So they taught us how to build birdhouses and then like, a cornhole set. And then, we are offered the Construction One class. And then there, that's where we started building this tiny house. And it's a two-year project.
At the very beginning, they showed us the floor plan. Said it was going to be like 750 square feet, so we didn't know we were, like, walking into. But it was a really fun experience. At first, though, I was completely scared. Laying down the foundation I just thought, wow, like, we're never going to finish this. And then we got to framing, which is my favorite part, and we started framing and everything just picked up from there. It took us like a month to frame the whole house. And then just being able to see us put up those walls was just amazing, because it was just like a dream come true, basically. And then we added the roof, and it was just beautiful. It was basically a house.
Like I said, it's just hands on and I love hands on. And it keeps me entertained. And, I just have learned so much. And then I want this to be my future career. Just because I know that construction is always going to be needed. Like, it's not one of those jobs that could be taken over by AI or something. It's going to be there for the rest of time. And I just want a career that I can follow that I enjoy. And it's, like, going to be there for the rest of the time.
